Welcome to the home page.
Hi, I’m Gary William Brown, GWB Original Artworks, and I just want to tell you something about my art and what I try to achieve with my paintings. Every artist has a reason for why they paint what they do, and I would not presume to tell another artist what is good or not so good, because I could never be in their head to understand what they were doing. It’s hard enough to be in my own head at times.
That being said, my intent is to give some people, who may need it, a calm place for their mind to go to escape the real world. The idea is to make it seem almost like a real place, but without any worldly distractions to shake the balance of peace and tranquility. Ocean scenes are, for the most part, calming and gentle. Mountain streams or mill ponds are usually serene and quiet. Even waterfalls are fairly gentle and relaxing. This is by design.
You may also notice that animals are seldom depicted in my art because they become focal points that distract from the mind enveloping peace. I’m never trying to make a person think any particular thing, but to just let their mind wander to another place for a time. A quiet beach scene with some soft white clouds suggest a gentle breeze near the end of the day, just peace and relaxation.
My feeling is that art should enlighten the soul of a person, not just look like a certain place. It should move you to a better place in your soul. I hope you will see that in my work, but it’s okay if you don’t. Each person has their own test for what constitutes art, and that’s as it should be. May peace be with you always, and a joyful heart to carry you through life.
